Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) May 08, 2012
DailyEndorphin and St. Louis County, MN (Duluth, MN) recently announced the results of a 12-week weight loss challenge. Total weight loss for county employees soared to nearly 1,000 total pounds, with many individuals losing 5 to 10 percent of their total body weight. The team-based wellness challenge, which ended on April 22, 2012, encouraged users to log their weight and exercise data on the DailyEndorphin platform in order to compete for weekly and overall goals. The weight loss challenge is one of numerous competitions and goal-based initiatives employers can track via the DailyEndorphin platform.
Challenge participants lost a total of 973 pounds and burned over 1.5 million calories during the challenge. Tiffany Carlson, St. Louis County’s Health Promotions Coordinator, said:
“St. Louis County truly values the wellness of its employees, families and surrounding community members. We understand that it’s up to us as employers and community to help make the necessary changes in our current disease pattern. The County understands the power of disease prevention programs and was recently labeled as a “Wellness Pioneer”. St. Louis County has worked closely with DailyEndorphin over the past three years and applauds its effectiveness and stellar customer service helping to support and promote healthy, happy employees.”
Research shows physical exercise not only aids in weight loss but causes chemical changes in the brain to combat stress, depression, aggression, and even nicotine-addiction. Nicole Ranum, a participant in the challenge, said:
“I wanted to thank you again for this challenge. When I quit smoking in December I really started to pack on some pounds, but this challenge really helped me feel motivated to get rid of it. The DailyEndorphin fitness dashboard is a really great tool. Seeing what I had been doing really made me feel proud. I’m down 15 pounds! I never thought I would get down this far. I have just a small way to go for my goal weight. It was nice to have something to focus on for the week that would help me reach my goal.”
